Lake Nakuru National Park

DESCRIPTION:

Lake Nakuru National Park lies in the volcanic – strewn Great Rift Valley, one of the chain of 8 lakes, which stretch the length of Kenya, Tanzania to Ethiopia. 160 kilometers from Nairobi

The lake is world famous as the location of the greatest bird spectacle on earth - myriads of fuchsia Pink flamingos whose numbers are legion, often more than a million maybe two.

The Park was declared a Rhino Sanctuary in 1983. The Rhino stocking programme which ensued received white rhinos from South Africa. Currently the sanctuary has approximately 45 black and 31 white rhinoceros.

The lake water is highly saline but supports a habitat rich in bio diversity including a variety of aquatic flora and fauna. The lake also is inhabited by water mammals mainly hippopotamus and claw less otters while the terrestrial part of the park supports a large number of other African plain mammals. The Park is also a sanctuary of the Rothschild's Giraffe.

Amboseli National Park

Amboseli National Park is situated on the foot hills of Mount Kilimanjaro. The park is famous for Up-close and personal encounters with huge elephant herds, flanked by the impressive Mount Kilimanjaro. Amboseli is an excellent place to view a multitude of wildlife, including lions, cheetah, wildebeest, elephants, giraffes and baboons. Optional visit to a Masai village is available as this is the home of the Maasai people. Here you learn about their customs and the place of the Masai in today’s Africa. The residents live in their Manyatta, or village, much as they have for centuries and a visit gives you the opportunity to see the interior of these mud-hut homes, spotless and unadorned, contrasted with the Maasai themselves, bedecked with brilliantly colored beads and cloths. Amboseli National Park is approximately a 4 hour drive from Nairobi and about 270 kilometers.

Day 1: Nairobi — Drive to Lake Naivasha

 

Depart by road for Lake Naivasha. Our accommodations are located right by Lake Naivasha, a fresh water lake. Visit Elsmere — the former home of the late Joy Adamson who, together with her husband George, became world famous for their pioneering conservation work and relationship with the Lioness Elsa, as told in her best-selling book and subsequent film: Born Free.

 

Lunch. Take a boat ride to Crescent Island. Many different types of animals are found in the Island. These include: Giraffes, waterbucks, wildebeest, Gazelles, Impala, Dik diks .

Day 2 : Lake Naivasha — Drive to the Masai Mara Game Reserve

Lunch at our Lodge. Afternoon game drive. The Mara Game Reserve – one of the greatest wildernesses of the world. Large mammals are varied, and easy to see.
Residents among the Parks are: Masai Giraffe, Buffalo, Eland and thousand of plain game including Impala, Zebra, Topi, both Thomson's and grants Gazelles.

Day 3: Discover Masai Mara Game Reserve
The search for great predators during this extensive game drive. On the plains are enormous herds of grazing animals plus the elusive cheetah and leopard hiding amidst acacia boughs.

 

An optional opportunity to visit a village of the Maasai people (at an extra cost) to witness the singing and dancing that are part of their daily lives and sacred rituals.
